made watches, since 1902. This company, originally based out of La
Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, states its motto as “Hasten Slowly”,
or Festina Lente, in Latin. In 1984 the company was purchased by Miguel
Rodriguez, a Spanish industrialist, who gave his new company the group
name of Festina Lotus S.A. The company was then headquartered in Barcelona,
Spain. Today, Festina watches are fabricated solely from Citizen Watch
Company movements out of Japan. The seat of their Swiss distribution
is the Bienne, Switzerland, watch company- the Candino Watch Company.
This company is a renowned supporter of the Tour de France cycling
event, sponsoring the Festina Cycling Team between 1989 and 2001.
An entire line of their men’s watches are named in honor of
this annual sporting event for which the company is the officially
certified time keeper.
